What are the qualities of a true hero? Give some modern day examples.

30 comments:

  1. A true hero needs to be able to put others in front of themselves in order to save them. A true hero should fight for the good of people, and never stop. Some examples of modern day true heroes are Batman, firefighters, police men, doctors and Superman.

  2. I agree with Jess, that a true hero should be brave, never show weakness, and constantly fight to help other people. But I think a true hero also has to be completely selfless. A true hero would always put other people's safety and needs before his/her own. Heroes we see in movies like Spiderman, Batman, and Superman fight crime and save the day. But people like doctors, firefighters, police officers, teachers, and even family member can be heroes by making a difference in someone's life and helping them.

  3. A true hero possesses many important qualities such as bravery, courage, and the ability to protect and save others. A hero will not worry about themselves because they have compassion and consideration for further lives than their own. To a hero, it does not matter what they may receive from helping others. Their main focus is to save others, despite the fact of a reward. A true hero does not include only superheroes such as Superman. Some modern day examples can also be parents, firefighters, and soldiers in the military.

  4. I agree with Bethany... A true hero is courageous, and looks out for others. This means they would help the innocent, even if it means endangering themselves. A true hero fights the evil in the world. Examples of realistic modern day heroes would be anyone who tries to better the world in any way; they could be a doctor, detective, or even a relative. A fictional hero could have the traits of a modern hero, but might be exaggerated. An example of this would be Super Man who can fly and is really strong, making it easier for them to save people from danger.

  5. My opinion of certain qualities that a hero needs to have are being brave in the essence of danger. A hero should never to be afraid of a situation, and take a life more seriously than your own. I do agree with Bethany when she states that a hero needs to be completely selfless. A hero makes themselves a hero by caring for someone else and making their lives their first priority. I would have to say that a modern hero today would be doctors, firemen, and policemen like Jess and Bethany said. But also other people that I feel like deserve the title of a hero would have to be the army, marines, and just soldiers in general. All these people put their lives on the line, for the safety of others. Isn’t that a true hero?

  7. A true hero does not have to be super strong and does not have to keep fighting for the good of the people. A true hero is anyone who tries their best at everything they do and is always ready to defend their beliefs for what they think is right. This might not sound like a hero when they are compared to people like Beowulf or Odysseus, both of whom where epic heroes, but in modern day society we would not be able to classify anyone as a hero if we held to the belief that a hero has to be strong, smart, and always fighting for what society thinks is good.In today's world a hero could be anyone, as long as they always hold on to what they think is right. Some examples of my favorite heroses are Ash Ketchum, Luke Skywalker, and the red power ranger.

  8. The qualities of a true hero are not evident in all people. First and foremost, a true hero must care about everyone, except themselves. They must put everyone before them in every situation. A true hero must be courageous when others are not. The true hero must prevail when everyone else fails. He/she should stand up for what is right and never back down, no matter what the circumstances are.

Some examples of modern day heroes include Spiderman, Batman, policeman, firefighters (especially during 9/11). They went up into the towers knowing that they would not come out… That I believe is the essence of a true hero.

  9. A true hero is a loyal, brave human being. They must put their own personal feelings aside and do what is right and neccesary to help the people in need. They have to be willing to put themselves in danger to help others. They don't have to be like the superheroes that are on television, lifting cars, although cool, is not a necessity. They just have to be willing to put others first and make their life better, whether in the form of donating clothes to the homeless or performing a nearly impossible surgery to save a dying patient.

Some modern examples of famous heroes are Batman, Catwoman, Spiderman, etc...

But the real heroes of the world are the doctors, police officers, surgeons, charities, soup kitchen workers, firefighters, and many more that help keep the planet a great place to live by doing all they can to help out society.

  10. A true hero is someone that goes out of their way to help the common good with no benifits personally. They are usually the ones to save the day and do something extrodinary but to help other people. Some characteristics are bravery because the hero has to risk themselves to save someone else. They also have to courageous because they will do something that they aren't very comfortable with. A typical characteristic of a true hero is strengh. A hero should not just have physical strengh but also emotional strength. When times are tough they need to keep the right state of mind even when times are tough. Some examples of real modern day heros are military men, policemen, and firemen. Or pretty much anyone who goes out of their way with risks involved to help save and protect someone else.

  11. When people hear the word “hero” they automatically imagine a super hero like Super Man soaring through the sky to save the damsel in distress. Sadly, super heroes do not exist in reality; true heroes are ordinary, everyday people that are valiant, dedicated, and selfless. Ordinary people are put in situations where they have to brazen out their worries. These fears could be as trifling as being frightened of spiders, or even something as horrendous as passing away. A hero is someone who may be afraid of all of the things, but has the audacity to think of others and put his own weaknesses aside. Christopher Reeve elucidates, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” He makes a strong point in saying that a hero doesn’t have to be abnormally tough, attractive, or brilliant; they just have to be able to find the strength within themselves to overcome their own weaknesses.

  12. There are many qualities to a true hero. One major thing a hero needs is bravery. They need to be brave enough to stand up to the problem. They also should have strength, intelligence and courage. A true hero is someone who will fight for the protection of others, not out of revenge. True heroes will endanger themselves to rescue something/someone when in need. Some modern day heroes are, firefighters, police officers, and people in the army.

  13. There are many ways that someone can be a hero. You can rescue a cat from a tree or help your friend with her problems. All of these people though have the qualities of love, kindness and respect. However, all heroes arent like that. They can be unique and stand up for what they believe in and be a hero to their church for that or their school group.
Some examples of modern day heroes are doctors, people in the military, and inventors

  14. To be considered a true hero they must be brave, strong, and intellegent. When I say strong, I don't always mean physically. Mentally these true hero must be strong to undergo tough and quick-thinking situations. This brings me to intellegence which these heros must have the knowlegde to make the right choice and understand everything that is going on in a situation. Lastly, these true heros must be brave. So when they have an oppinion and and believe in something, they won't back down and stand up for what is right.
Some examples of true heros now a days would soliders, Doctors, surgents, fireman, and police officers.

  15. I disagree with Britney Curtis, a true hero may not only be a human being; it could also be an animal, like a dog. When a dog rescues a little girl from a burning building, or finds a criminal I believe that the dog is most definitely considered a hero, because they risked their lives to perform a great deed for another. In these cases the animal is courageous and selfless, they portray all of the same characteristics and actions as a human hero would in these particular cases.

  16. The truth about modern day heroes is that there isn't any. Our culture rejects heroes. There is a Hall of Fame in New York City for great Americans and it only gets a handful of visits a year. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame gets over one million visitors per year. We don't put value in heroes anymore. I saw our culture change a bit when 9/11 happened, we saw police officers and firemen as heroes, but once again we lost that way of thinking.

  17. A true hero is someone that you can look up to for many different reasons. My hero is my cousin Tim. He was diagnosed with cancer in 8th grade and beat it, the first time. He was then diagnosed again as a sophomore and it went down hill from there, but he held on and faught! His cancer spread from his pelvis to his lungs. He faught for 2 years and in the last weeks of his life he was always worrying about others! He is a true hero in my eyes!

  18. I think that there are many definitions of a true hero. Like many people have stated in their comments, a true hero may be someone who is very brave and strong and who seems to have powers or capabilities that the average human does not have. However, I also think that a true hero can be anyone who is selfless and will put the lives of others (even people they don't know) before their own. Not all true heroes need to be exceptionally strong or have special capabilities and they certainly do not need to be totally fearless.
An example of a person who did something heroic while lacking physical strength and not being totally fearless is Rosa Parks. She defied the Jim Crow Laws and helped to bring freedom to the daily lives of thousands of people.

  19. A hero is someone who has an outstanding quality, usually bravery or courage or strength. They help others selflessly because they want to and because they have the ability to. Heroes also usually have a weakness. For example, Superman's weakness is kryptonite. However, heroes also contain the quality of overcoming those obstacles and "saving the day", no matter how trivial it may seem.

Modern examples of heroes are like what many people said: Batman, Superman, etc. Many people also said Doctors, policemen, firefighter, and I strongly agree with them. Also, everyday people can be heroes. People who help an old lady across the street, or stop help someone who has a flat tire on the side of the road.

  20. A true hero is one who possesses qualities such as loyalty, honesty, honor, courage and bravery. This person must be willing to sacrifice their life or well being for another human being. Also, a hero must posses greater than average intelligence in order to be able to make decisions regarding morals and the definitions of right and wrong. Some modern day examples of heros are police officers, fire fighters, military personnel, and doctors.

  21. I think a hero has the same qualities as the people above said. Helping others to succeed is heroic. True heros cannot be selfish but also need to be realistic. A hero doesn't have to be someone who saves lives or fights crime, but maybe someone who puts a smile on your face and helps you have a better day. Qualities of a true hero inclue being trustworthy, honest, helpful, and determined.

  22. An epic hero is recognized for more of their physical strength and social power. Modern day heroes are average people sacrificing their own needs to help others during a crisis. A modern day example is the pilot who safely landed Flight 1549 into the Hudson River, saving his 155 passengers aboard.

  23. I agree with Britney Curtis when she writes that the true heroes “…are doctors, police officers, surgeons, charities, soup kitchen workers, firefighters, and many more that help keep the planet a great place to live by doing all they can to help out society.” The true heroes of modern day are ones that are there to enlighten the experience of the world each day. If we did not have people like this, the world would be a dreadful place to live in. People would not be kind and courteous to anyone and everyone would not want to talk to anyone. In essence, they are the people who make the world spin. The world would not be humane without them.

  24. A true hero can be described in several ways. One person may say that a hero is someone that stands up for what they believe in. Another may say that a hero is someone who puts others before their own well-being. A third person may say that a hero is someone who fights for the protection of others. The definition of a hero is unique to each person.
Heroes that fight for what they believe is right and stands up for what they believe in is seen all throughout history. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, the passengers of Flight 93, and every revolution. People fight for what they believe in and don't give up when someone tells them that they are wrong. That is one example of a hero.
Other heroes include soldiers, police officers, firefighters, and every day citizens that help and protect others. You hear on the news of a man or woman helping a complete stranger. Why do they do it? Why do people protect and help others? It's mostly human nature, when one human sees another human in trouble, it's instinct to help them. I would also like to add in that most heroes have similar qualities of bravery and selflessness. I feel that another example of heroes are parents. Parents love their children unconditionally and protect them. They also would easily die for their children's safety or be sick instead of their child being sick.

  25. I feel that true a treu hero is one who has strong core morals and always stands up for them in a time of need. Hero's will help other people and fight against what is wrong. A hero must be brave, layal and couragous. I also feel a hero needs to be emotionally and mentally stong even more so than physically.

Some examples of modern day heros are policemen, firefighters, and posotive professional athletes. However, ultimately anyone can be a hero because if you stand up for what you believe in and you are helping other people then you are a hero.

  26. A true hero considers the wellbeing of others and the greater good to be more important than his or her own safety or happiness. An evident concept associated with heroes is sacrifice. Any true hero, fictional or one of real life, must sacrifice something of theirs to help others. In the epic poem Beowulf, this sacrifice is Beowulf the Geat’s life. Beowulf risks his life for the lives of the Danes. However, the sacrifice of a true hero does not have to be a life. I believe that there are some teachers in this school who should be considered heroes. These selfless people spend countless hours of their free time helping students with homework and, in some cases, personal issues as well. I have had teachers throughout all of my years in the Coventry Public Schools system help me with difficult concepts, both inside and outside of class, with an unimaginable amount of persistence and patience. These people sacrificed so much time and effort to help me, along with my classmates, understand so many different ideas. It is clear to me that a modern day hero can be a teacher.
Teachers are not the only modern day heroes. I agree with others that policemen, firemen, soldiers, charity workers, etc. are all heroes as well. All of these people make the sacrifice of time, effort, their health, or a combination of these for the wellbeing of others.

  27. a true hero is some one that puts themselves before others no matter what the cost. they have qualities that set them apart from others such as kindness, love, currage, strength and intelegence. a true hero stands prouly for what they beleive in and for the common good.
a modern exaple of a true hero is medical proffesionals. they take an oath that states they must put the patiant first and always help the patiant to the best of their abilities.

  29. I also agree with Jamie Buczko that a true hero needs to be able to come through when all else fails, because if nobody else has the courage to step up, then a true hero would be the one to rescue everybody.

  30. A true hero is someone who put themself in danger to save people in need. They posess the qualities of kindness, respect, and dedicated. I agree with Nicole Bernier not all heros have those qualities, they dont need to be like superman or batman, they could be a doctor or a teacher, someone who helps people everyday and make the world a better place.
